BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Kevin O'Shea has been promoted to Texas A&M Men's Tennis Associate Head Coach, announced Wednesday by head coach Steven Denton.
"The Lord and his matchless grace has always surrounded me with great people to work with," Denton said. "Kevin (O'Shea) from the beginning has had a huge impact on our program. When he was Director of Operations, we had huge crowds and amazing support for our program because of him. As he has transitioned into coaching, he became one of the finest coaches in the country. Not only is he a tireless recruiter and motivator of our players he is a great technical and tactical coach that gives his all for our players and this great university. "
O'Shea has been a part of the Texas A&M program for 15 years, spending six years as Director of Operations, five years as the Volunteer Assistant and the past four years as Assistant Coach. Since he has been involved with the program, the Aggies have seen the most successful run in program history highlighted by five conference trophies and an unprecedented amount of postseason success. In 2018, the Aggies reach the semifinals of both the NCAA Tournament and ITA Indoor Team Championships, both program bests.
"I am so pleased to see Kevin (O'Shea) receive the recognition that he deserves for all of the hard work that he has put into the Aggie tennis program," former Associate Head Coach Bob McKinley said. "He is truly one of the top coaches in the country and the Aggies are blessed to have him as their Associate Head Coach."
Under O'Shea's direction, Texas A&M saw a remarkable run of seven seasons in which a doubles tandem earned All-America honors. Since O'Shea arrived in Aggieland, the Aggies have produced 12 doubles All-American duos compared to just five tandems prior to his arrival. In singles action, the Aggies have claimed 15 All-American awards compared to eight in the previous 59 seasons.
"All of our student-athletes truly love him and the passion and energy he brings is a major reason why we have had so much success since joining the SEC," Denton added. "It has truly been a privilege for me to work with Kevin over these last sixteen years. Having said all of this, I am very proud today to announce that Kevin has been promoted to Associate Head Coach of Aggie Men's Tennis Team, an honor and title he so richly deserves"
