Aggies Set for NCAA Zone D Diving Championships

HOUSTON – The Texas A&M men's and women's diving teams are set for NCAA Zone D Diving Championships beginning Monday, March 11 and running through Wednesday, March 13 at the CRWC Natatorium on Houston's campus. Prelims will begin daily at 11:45 a.m. with finals to follow. Nine Aggies will compete for a chance to advance out of Zones and punch their tickets to NCAA Championships.
Victor Povzner, Takuto Endo, Allen Bottego, Rhett Hensley and Matthew Aigner earned their spots at Zones early in the year. All five Aggies will be in action on the springboards, while Endo, Hensley and Aigner have also posted qualifying scores on platform. Povzner recently defended his 1-meter SEC title with a season-best score of 403.05 in the final to secure gold. He was joined on the podium by Hensley for the second-straight season, who this year brought home silver with a career-best score of 381.60. Hensely just missed the podium on platform, placing fourth with a score of 367.20. Bottego made his podium debut at SECs with a career-high score of 421.05 to earn a bronze medal on the 3-meter and added top-10 points from the consolation final on the 1-meter (345.60). Endo advanced to the final on both springboards at SECs, placing fourth on the 1-meter (362.90) and eighth on the 3-meter (343.20). He earned his Zones score on the platform with a second-place score of 361.25 at the Art Adamson Invite. Aigner made his debut at SEC Championships last month and added points for the Aggies with top-24 finishes on the 3-meter (303.80) and platform (271.40).
Joslyn Oakley, Payton Props, Mayson Richards and Chloe McKnight all notched their Zone-qualifying scores on both springboards, while McKnight will also compete on platform. Oakley recently put her resilience on display and claimed the first SEC title of her young career, claiming gold on the 1-meter with a score of 325.65. Oakley swept the springboards five times during the dual meet season, earning SEC Diver of the Week four times. Props added points for the Aggies at SECs with a top-20 score on the 3-meter (259.80). She posted her career-best 1-meter score of 301.28 in the season-opener against Incarnate Word. Richards is coming off an impressive SEC Championships where she advanced to the final on the 3-meter, eventually placing seventh with a score of 292.90, while adding top-10 points on the 3-meter with a score of 283.20. McKnight posted her top score of the season on the 1-meter (275.78) in the season-opener against Incarnate Word, and later put up a score of 297.35 on the 3-meter at TCU for her top score of the year. She earned her Zones qualifying score for platform at the Art Adamson Invite with a score of 237.90.
The available automatic qualifying spots for NCAA Championships out of Zone D are 10 men on the 1-meter, nine on the 3-meter and seven on platform while 11 women will punch their ticket to NCAAs on the 1-meter, nine on the 3-meter and nine on platform. Once qualified in one event, divers that finish in the top 12 of any other event will also be able to compete in that event at NCAA Championships.
