
Men’s Swimming & Diving Honors 2023-24 Season at Annual Banquet

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION -- The Texas A&M men's swimming & diving team recently celebrated its 2023-24 season at the annual team banquet. The program came together to recognize team award winners, recap the season and hear from the senior class.
Baylor Nelson was named Danny Green Memorial MVP for the second straight season after posting a pair of top-eight finishes at NCAA Championships and again earning the SEC Commission's Trophy at the league championship meet. Nelson brought home three individual medals from SEC Championships for the second straight season, including a pair of golds to help him earn the Commission's Trophy as a top scorer at the meet. The sophomore defended both of his IM titles, touching the wall in 1:41.72 to claim his first gold of the week in the 200 IM and later going a then-personal-best 3:38.05 in the 400 IM to secure a second top finish. Nelson rounded out the week with a second-place finish in the 200 breast clocking a career-best 1:52.43. The Huntersville, North Carolina, native closed out the year with top-eight finishes in both IM events at NCAA Championships, including a third-place finish with a school-record time of 3:37.46 in the 400 IM.
Connor Foote made a name for himself in his second season in Aggieland, earning Most Improved honors at the team banquet after taking down three individual school records and adding a pair of individual top-16 finishes at NCAA Championships. Foote medaled for the first time in his young career at SECs, clocking a school record time of 44.76 in the 100 fly to place third. He went on to lower his own school record in the 50 free (18.87) and add a program-best time in the 100 free (41.49) while racking up five All-America Honorable Mention accolades at NCAA Championships to cap off his sophomore season.
The Performance of the Year award went to SEC Champions Victor Povzner and Alex Sanchez. Povzner defended his 1-meter title to claim the second goal medal of his career in the event with a season-high score of 403.05. Sanchez earned the first SEC gold of his career with his second school record swim of the week, going 1:50.36 in the 200 breast final to touch the wall first and lead a loaded final for the Maroon & White.
The Aggies went undefeated through the dual meet season, boasting a 9-0 record and taking down five top-25 opponents. Texas A&M finished 16th at NCAA Championships, tallying 21 All-America honors and lowering five school records. The Maroon & White placed sixth at SEC Championships bringing home 10 medals, including four gold, and clocking four school records.
