Vacherot Claims Historic First ATP Title at Rolex Shanghai Masters
Oct 12, 2025 | Men's Tennis
SHANGHAI – Former Texas A&M All-America tennis players and cousins Valentin Vacherot and Arthur Rinderknech faced off in the Rolex Shanghai Masters Final Sunday morning. Vacherot came out on top of Rinderknech, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, to win his first ever ATP Title.
Vacherot made history as the lowest-ranked ATP Masters 1000 at No. 204. His performance from this week has broken him into the ATP top-40 for the first time in his career. The Monaco native was originally a qualifying alternate, and nine wins later he took home the title.
"If I didn't get into Texas A&M in 2017 thanks to you, we wouldn't be here today," Vacherot said at the trophy ceremony. "I dreamt of joining you in the top 100, but now we are together, and hopefully we can both stay there for a long time."
Prior to this tournament, Rinderknech had never made it beyond the third round of an ATP Masters 1000 event. While he fell to the hands of his cousin, the Frenchman defeated five top-30 opponents to make his run into the final, putting him within the top-30 ATP rankings for the first time in his career.
"Two cousins are stronger than one," Rinderknech said at the trophy ceremony. "You won today, congratulations. I gave it my all. I'm so happy for you, I hope there will be more. I love you so much."
