Texas A&M Swimming Wraps Up Day 1 of Dual with Arizona

TUCSON – The Texas A&M swim team wrapped up day one of a dual meet with Arizona on Friday at the Hillenbrand Aquatic Center.
Leading the way for the women's team was junior Ava Whitaker who logged a NCAA qualifying cut in the 200 fly finishing with a time of 1:57.05. Senior Kaitlyn Owens and junior Hannah O'Leary also finished with first place victories. Owens touched first in the 100 back in 53.09 and O'Leary won the 200 IM in 2:00.39.
Pacing the men's squad with victories were freshman Bucky Gettys and senior Munzy Kabbara. Gettys posted a win in the 1,650 free in 15:19.18 and Kabbara won the 200 IM in 1:45.29. Finishing second and third in the 200 IM were junior Daniil Pancerevas in 1:46.00 and junior Logan Brown in 1:48.40.
The Aggies opened the meet with second place finishes in the 400 medley relay with the women's foursome of Owens, senior Claire Gass, Whitaker, and sophomore Ella McQuinn touching in 3:33.18 and the men's quartet of John Simmons, Brown, sophomore Chase Swearingen, and sophomore Ben Sytsma finishing in 3:08.60.
The Maroon & White closed out the meet with the women finishing second (Owens, McQuinn, freshman Reagan Sherrard, and freshman Eloise Williamson) touching in 1:29.60 and the men finished in third place (Sytsma, Swearingen, freshman Alejandro Michelena, and Brown) finishing in 1:19.78.
