Foote Lowers 50 Free School Record on Day Three of SEC Championships

ATHENS – Junior Connor Foote took down his own 50 free school record two times Wednesday night as SEC Swimming & Diving Championships continued at the Gabrielsen Natatorium. The women currently sit in sixth with 268 points, while the men moved up to fifth with 264 points.
Foote closed out the swimming events with a new school record, going a blazing 18.67 to place fifth and secure an NCAA A-cut in the 50 free. Ben Scholl added top-10 points for A&M as he became just the second Aggie to clock a sub-19 50 free clocking in at 18.97.
To begin the night, Foote, Scholl, Collin Fuchs and Seth Reno got straight to work in the 200 free relay, going 1:15.86 to place fifth with the second-fastest time in program history. Foote lowered his 50 free school record for the first time from the leadoff position with a time of 18.80 to help the men's squad notch their first relay A-cut of the year.
The women's 200 free relay also got out to a strong start as Kaitlyn Owens, Kailey Kennedy, Ella McQuinn and Olivia Theall picked up a B-cut with a season-best 1:28.48 to place eighth. As the leadoff swimmer, Owens clocked the second-fastest 50 free all-time at A&M, going 21.91.
Owens later earned her highest individual finish SEC Championships with a seventh-place finish in the 50 free, matching her prelims time of 22.04.
Baylor Nelson rounded out the A-finalist swimmers for the Aggies, touching the wall in a season-best 1:41.43 to place fifth in the 200 IM. Munzy Kabbara (1:44.19), Jacob Wimberly (1:44.59) and Logan Brown (1:43.55) also added top-20 points for the Maroon & White in the 200 IM.
Else Praasterink made her finals debut at SEC Championships, placing seventh on the 3-meter with a score of 319.35. In the consolation final, Mayson Richards finished atop the field, taking ninth with a score of 323.60.
Theall led the way in the women's 200 IM, finishing 12th with a time of 1:57.87. Giulia Goerigk (1:38.34) and Hannah O'Leary (1:58.44) were in action in the C final, placing 21st and 22nd, respectively.
Hayden Miller and Trey Dickey represented the Maroon & White in the 500 free finals. Miller clocked in at 4:41.50 to place 20th and Dickey was 21st with a B-cut time of 4:18.10.
