Aggie Men’s 400 Medley Relay Lowers School Record at SEC Championships

ATHENS – The Texas A&M men's 400 medley relay took down the school record to close out Friday night at SEC Swimming & Diving Championships at Gabrielsen Natatorium. Both the men's and women's squads sit in fifth heading into the final day of competition with 503 points apiece.
The men's 400 medley relay team of Baylor Nelson, Travis Gulledge, Connor Foote and Ben Scholl finished out the night lowering the school record with a time of 3:03.78 to take fourth place and secure an NCAA A cut. Foote's 100 fly split of 44.01 also stands as the fastest in program history.
The women's 400 medley relay clocked a season-best time as Kaitlyn Owens, Bobbi Kennett, Olivia Theall and Chloe Stepanek went 3:31.08 to place sixth.
Else Praasterink posted the Aggies' highest individual finish of the night, placing fourth on platform with a score of 303.50. At her first SEC Championships, Chloe McKnight advanced to the platform consolation final where she registered a career-high score of 253.50 to place 12th.
The Aggies stacked up points in the men's 100 breast as Alex Sanchez led the way with a sixth-place finish, going 51.87. Gulledge finished atop the B final in ninth with the sixth-fastest time of the night as he matched his personal-best from earlier this season, clocking in at 51.86. Lane White went 52.45 to place 15th and Vincent Ribeiro added a 24th-place finish with a time of 53.20. On the women's side, Kennett touched the wall in 59.94 to place 14th and Ella McQuinn secured 21st with a time of 1:00.68 in the 100 breast.
Owens claimed the 100 back B final with a new personal-best, going 51.56 to move into fourth on A&M's all-time list. Jordan Buechler added points from the C final, going 53.86. On the men's side Thomas Shomper tacked on a 15th-place finish in the 100 back with a 46.32.
Theall and Katie Walker were in action in the 200 fly B final. Theall dropped time from the morning session to clock in at 1:55.04 and place 11th, while Walker lowered her season-best from prelims, going 1:56.12 to finish in 14th.
Roberto Bonilla Flores added a 22nd-place time of 1:43.79 in the 200 fly and Jacob Wimberly touched the wall just behind his teammate to clock a new personal-best with a time of 1:44.07.
