Texas A&M Prepped for Men’s NCAA Championships

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – Thirteen Aggies are set to represent the Maroon & White at Men's NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships this week at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatics Center. The meet begins Wednesday, March 26 and runs through Saturday, March 29.
Connor Foote was invited to his third NCAA Championships, qualifying in the 50 free, 100 free and 100 fly. The nine-time All-American is coming off an impressive showing at SEC Championships where he lowered his own school records in all three events. His top times of 18.67 in the 50 free, 41.38 in the 100 free and 44.34 in the 100 fly rank among the top-11 in the nation this season.
Baylor Nelson also heads to his third NCAA Championships with qualifying times in both IM events. A six-time All-American, Nelson earned his eighth career medal at SECs when he brought home silver in the 400 IM. Nelson boasts the third-fastest time in the country this season in the 400 IM, going 3:37.47 at SECs, and ranks 13th nationally in the 200 IM with a time of 1:41.43.
Munzy Kabbara and Alex Sanchez return to NCAAs, qualifying in the 400 IM and 200 breast, respectively. Kabbara advanced to the consolation final in both IM events at SECs and recently clocked a new personal-best in the 400 IM after going 3:41.61 at the Last Chance Meet. Sanchez boasts the No. 16 time in the nation this season after going 1:51.87 at the Art Adamson Invite earlier in the year. At SECs he added top-eight points in both breaststroke events, finishing fourth in the 200.
Ben Scholl qualified in the 50 free and will make his debut at the meet as an individual after earning Honorable Mention All-America accolades in three events as a relay swimmer a season ago. The sophomore sprinter became just the second Aggie to clock a sub-19.0 50 free as his time of 18.97 from SECs ranks 26th in the national this season. Newcomer Travis Gulledge earned his spot at NCAAs in the 100 breast. After matching his personal-best in the event at SECs, he clocked a 51.56 at the Last Chance Meet to rank among the top-30 in the country.
Seth Reno, Thomas Shomper, Ben Sytsma and Jacob Wimberly will join the Aggies in Washington as relay swimmers as the Maroon & White qualified all five relays for the postseason meet.
Allen Bottego heads to his fourth NCAAs after qualifying on both springboards at Zones. He notched top-10 finishes in both events at SECs, including a fourth-place finish on 3-meter. Rhett Hensley returns to the championship meet, competing on the 1-meter and platform. Hensley, a two-time Honorable Mention All-American on platform, scored in both events at SEC Championships, finishing ninth on platform. Jaxon Bowshire will also be in action on the 1-meter and platform in his debut at NCAA Championships. The freshman claimed the platform title at his first SEC Championships and was the top qualifier in the event at Zones.
