May 12, 2025 | Men's Golf
AUBURN – The No. 12 Texas A&M men's golf team completed Monday's opening round of the NCAA Auburn Regional tied for fifth place.
The Aggies posted an even 288 at the par-72, 7,607-yard Auburn University Club to finish the day tied with Purdue and New Mexico State at the cutoff. The host Tigers lead the field at 13-under 275, followed by UCLA (-5), Georgia Tech (-4) and SMU (-2).
The top five teams at each of the six NCAA regional sites advance to the NCAA Championship.
All-SEC First Teamer Phichaksn Maichon led the Aggies on the first loop with a 2-under 70, including a 34 on the front nine. He heads into second round action tied for sixth place.
Michael Heidelbaugh is in a pack of 11 golfers tied for 20th place after his even 72 round, featuring one of the Aggies' two eagles on No 16.

On the bright moments of the round...
"We made a couple eagles and birdied on No. 16 that really boosted our score late. We could've been a little cleaner on the finish. But all the guys were on it all day, which is important in a regional. We got one round under our belt at a golf course none of our guys have played it. So I look for the guys to be a little more confident and comfortable out there tomorrow and to fight for what we came here for."
On the conditions…
"It was just wet out there. The conditions were fine. They've had a bunch of rain, so we knew it was going to be wet. It makes a few shots a little more tedious than they would regularly be, but I don't know that the golf course played any more difficult or even easier. It was just a matter of us being us. The next two rounds, if we're the team we've grown into the last we months and playing to our level we'll be right where we want to be."
