Jun 17, 2025 | Softball
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – Texas A&M's Mya Perez was named a College Sports Communicators Softball Academic First Team All-American after achieving overwhelming success on the diamond and in the classroom, the organization announced Tuesday morning.
It marked the first Academic All-America recognition for Perez, while she is the first Aggie to earn the honor since 2008 and is only the fourth in the program's history joining Megan Gibson (2008), Amanda Scarborough (2007) and Tiffany Ohnstad (1984).
In the classroom, Perez completed her sophomore year maintaining a 3.51 GPA in sport management. Since arriving to Aggieland, she has been an academic leader earning SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll as a freshman in 2024 and being named to the Athletics Director Honor Roll every semester at Texas A&M.
On the diamond, Perez earned her first career NFCA All-America honor following a standout second-year campaign. The Corona, Calif., native shattered a 43-year-old Texas A&M single-season record with 73 RBI. Her .424 batting average ranked third in program history, while her .804 slugging percentage stood as the sixth best all-time.
On the national stage, she finished among the top 20 players in both on-base percentage (.561) and RBI (73). She was particularly effective against ranked opponents, hitting .400 with seven home runs, six doubles and a .760 slugging percentage. In those games, she tallied 28 RBI, 15 runs and 20 walks.
In SEC play, Perez was named to the All-SEC First Team after ranking second in on-base percentage (.541), fifth in batting average (.393) and seventh in slugging percentage (.721) against conference foes. She was the only Aggie to earn multiple SEC weekly honors as Texas A&M set a school record with seven total weekly awards.
Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA/CSC has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 42,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports. For more information about the Academic All-America program, visit academicallamerica.com.
