NORMAN, Okla. – The Texas A&M men's golf team opens the season slotted No. 20 in the Bushnell/Golfweek DI Coaches Poll released Friday by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
The Aggies, who finished 11th at last season's NCAA Championships, return seven letterwinners headlined by Wheaton Ennis who earned GCAA All-Freshman, PING All-Central Region and SEC All-Freshman honors. Aaron Pounds, who climbed as high as No. 133 last season, continues to improve headed into his junior campaign. Jacob Sosa is also expected to frequent the lineup in his second season in Aggieland. Other returnees include senior Jaime Montojo, juniors Jake Maggert and Jack Usner and sophomore Alex Long.
The Maroon & White also welcome two talented newcomers including transfer Kris Kuvaas and freshman Shiv Parmar.
The SEC is once again predicted to be the top power with 12 teams in the preseason top 25. Oklahoma State topped the opening poll followed by Auburn, Texas, Florida and Ole Miss in the top five.
The Aggies open the season Sept. 7-8 competing in the Gopher Invitational. The tournament field will tackle Windsong Farm Golf Club in the suburbs of Minneapolis.
