Borovilos Sets U.S. Women’s Amateur Record; Trio of Aggies Advance to Match Play
Aug 05, 2025 | Women's Golf
BANDON, Ore. – Texas A&M's Vanessa Borovilos broke the single round scoring record by sinking 10 birdies and turning in a 9-under 63 in the second round of the 125th U.S. Women's Amateur at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort Tuesday to advance to match play alongside fellow Aggies Natalie Yen and Scarlett Schremmer.
Borovilos started on the back nine and made the turn with six birdies on the card before heading back to the front with Texas A&M assistant coach Ryan Sirman on the bag. The rising sophomore birdied three of her first four holes on the front and then secured the solo record with a four on the par-5 ninth hole. The All-American broke a 12-year-old record that was held by Yumi Matsubara who posted a 64 in the second round of the 113th U.S. Women's Amateur.
"It did come with some luck today that's for sure," Borovilos said. "Not every putt was struck well, but they happened to hit the holes, so I just went with it. My coach did a great job of giving me good yardages and I was able to trust him out there and wail away at my driver."
Borovilos tied for fourth in stroke play with a 36-hole score of 7-under 137 to advance to the round of 64 in match play which begins Wednesday. Also making the cut were Yen the 2025 U.S. Women's Amateur Four-Ball Champion and Schremmer who was named to the 2024 Rolex First Team All-American.
Yen tied for 16th with a 4-under 140 thru 36 holes and Schremmer took home a share of 21st at 3-under 141. The pair highlight head coach Gerrod Chadwell's No. 2 recruiting class in the country. Texas A&M is one of three schools (Duke, Princeton) to have three golfers advance to match play at this year's U.S. Women's Amateur.
