Sep 19, 2025 | Men's Golf
OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. – The No. 16 Texas A&M men's golf team wrapped up Friday's opening round of the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational in a tie for sixth place.
The Aggies penciled in a 5-over 285 to sit in a tie with Florida State and Illinois on the leaderboard. They are six strokes behind leader Texas Tech (-1). Oklahoma State (E), Florida (+2), Loyola Marymount (+2) and Alabama (+3) round out the top five.
Wheaton Ennis paced the Aggies in the opening round firing an even 70 with three birdies. He enters Saturday's action tied for 14th place, two strokes behind individual leader Adam Bresnu of Texas Tech.
Kris Kuvaas and Aaron Pounds are among 14 players tied for 21st place at 1-over 71. Jaime Montojo and Jack Usner are in a logjam for 41st place at 3-over 73.
The Maroon & White played 3-under going out on the back nine with eight birdies, but managed just three birdies in going 6-over on their second nine.

"I thought we were just a little cleaner finish away from a really good day. As it was, it was a nice day and a solid start to a golf tournament that still has 36 holes left. We started well and played a really good first nine. If we played a little cleaner on the back nine, or even just the last few holes, and we'd be in a little better shape, but I'm happy with how they played.
On if the lower scores going out on the back nine than coming in on the front nine were because of how the course was playing or how the team was playing...
I thought we caught a few more fairways on our first nine and maybe made a putt or two more and really that was about it. We just didn't get enough balls in the fairway that second nine to get enough opportunities to score. That was on us. That wasn't the golf course. It played really the same the whole day. The wind really never came up. It was just matter of us executing a little better. I know the guys are going to do their best to do that tomorrow."
