Sep 20, 2025 | Men's Golf
OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. – Wheaton Ennis paced the No. 16 Texas A&M men's golf team after two rounds of the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational with Saturday's 2-under 68.
Ennis is tied for eighth place after two loops around the par-70, 7,353-7ard Olympia Fields Country Club. He owns a 2-under 138. The sophomore starts Sunday's final round three strokes behind co-leaders Gaven Lane of Oklahoma State and Matthew Kress of Florida who boast a 5-under 135 through two circuits.
The Aggies are tied with three schools for ninth place on the team leaderboard. The Maroon & White shot 6-over 286 in the second round and check in at 11-over 571 for the tournament. Florida leads the pack at 11-under 549 followed by Texas Tech (-4), Oklahoma State (-1), Illinois (+2) and Florida State (+3).

Head Coach Brian Kortan
On the tournament through two rounds...
"Through 36 holes we've seen a lot of good golf, but each day we could have finished just a hair better. Today we could have parred some holes down the stretch and been in a little better shape. When you play in a field like this, it shows you what you need to do to get better and that's why we're here. We'll get after it tomorrow and finish the week strong. The key will be getting the ball in the fairway more frequently. If you don't get it in the fairway, it just makes the day a lot harder than it needs to be."
On Wheaton Ennis' play...
"Wheaton has put two solid rounds together. He would tell you he left some shots out there both rounds, but in general he's done the best job of the crew of keeping the ball in good spots. He hasn't made a ton of birdies, but he hasn't made a bunch of bogeys so he's given himself a chance to shoot good scores."
