No. 7 Aggies in Second After Day One of Folds of Honor Collegiate
Sep 08, 2025 | Women's Golf
GRAND HAVEN, Mich. – The No. 7 Texas A&M women's golf team finished the first round of the Folds of Honor Collegiate in second at 5-over 293 Monday and was led by freshman Brynn Kort who shot a 1-under 71 and was tied for second at the American Dunes Golf Club.
"I was really happy with how we adjusted considering the weather was 50 degrees lower than what we are used to," head coach Gerrod Chadwell said. "The golf ball was not flying very far and greens were very fast and firm, but I though we handled that well. We weren't as clean around the turn as we should have been, but we will take care of that tomorrow. I walked with Brynn today and she was hitting it so well. If her putter was on, it could have gotten pretty scary. She has a lot of control of her game right now and that should help her for the rest of the week."
Baylor (+4) was out in front of the Aggies by one shot after 18 holes. Texas A&M was ahead of six ranked teams in No. 16 North Carolina (+7), No. 30 Kansas (+9), No. 18 Florida State (+13), No. 22 Michigan State (+15), No. 15 Ohio State (+16) and No. 26 Arizona State (+16).
Kort has been in the top two of the player leaderboard after the first round in each of her first two collegiate tournaments. Kort had birdies on Nos. 4, 6 and 13 with just two bogeys and was five shots back of Kentucky's Anastasia Hekkonen for the lead.
Vanessa Borovilos shot even par and held onto a piece of fourth after Monday's action. The Canadian was one of six golfers to shoot par-or-better Monday.
Cayetana Fernández García-Poggio and Sky Sudberry both tied for 19th at 3-over 75 and Natalie Yen rounded out the lineup tied for 42nd.
Texas A&M tees off at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday and will be highlighted during the Golf Channel broadcast from 3:30-6:30 p.m. Live stats for the tournament can be followed at scoreboard.clippd.com.
