Second Annual Celebrity Softball Game Returns Wednesday

COLLEGE STATION – The second annual Texas A&M Football Celebrity Softball Game and Home Run Derby return to Davis Diamond on Wednesday, July 29.

Admission to the event is free with gates opening at 5 p.m. CT. Fans will be able to get autographs from select players between 5:00 and 6:00 p.m. on the main concourse.

Home Run Derby Rules

  • Three-round, single-elimination round robin. The hitter with the highest point total advances.
  • Each round will be 90 seconds long with each home run counting as one point.
  • A “money ball period” will take effect in the final 30 seconds of each round. During the “money ball period”, each home run will be worth two points.
  • In the event of a tie in any round, each hitter gets 1 swing.

Pop Fly Challenge

  • The pop fly challenge will pit former players against current players.
  • Each team will consist of six players, with each player having two opportunities to catch a standard pop fly.
  • Each pop fly caught will be worth one point.
  • Each team has 12 total attempts. The team with the most points wins.

Slow Pitch Softball Game Rules

  • The game will be 6 innings
  • Each batter will receive three strikes.
  • A batter will be ruled out after hitting a third foul ball.
  • No hit by pitches, walks or free bases.
  • No bunting
  • No base stealing and no sliding into any base.
  • There will be a 4-run mercy rule in effect for each inning.
  • Any ball that hits the pitcher’s net is ruled an automatic single.
  • If a thrown ball goes out of play, each base runner is awarded an extra base.
  • If a foul ball is hit into the stands and is caught by a fan, the batter is ruled OUT.
  • The batting order will be divided into two lineups: One lineup for innings 1-3, and a second lineup for innings 4-6.
  • Power-ups: Each team has the opportunity to use special power-ups during the game. Each power up player may be used only once per game. Coaches may insert a power up player for one at-bat only. After that at-bat is complete, the game resumes with the original lineup and players.
