CARLSBAD, Calif. – The No. 4 Texas A&M Women's golf team shot 9-over 297 and tied for 15th in the second round of the NCAA Championship Saturday at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa.
The Aggies' second round score brought their tournament total to 10-over 586 and right on the cutline for tomorrow's action. Texas A&M was tied with Tennessee and Florida State for 15th. The Maroon & White will need to be within the top 15 by the end of Sunday's round in order to advance to the fourth round of stroke play and compete for a spot in match play.
Texas A&M shot 9-over par on the back nine to begin the second round but steadied the ship on the front by shooting even-par to stop the damage and get into the clubhouse with the afternoon wave behind them. The Aggies ended the round tied for 23rd but climbed eight spots while teams finished their rounds.
Freshman Brynn Kort led the team for the second-straight day, shooting 1-over 73 and bring her 36-hole score to even par. Kort stands tied for 27th after 36 holes of play
Cayetana Fernández García-Poggio turned in a 2-over 74 and was tied for 46th. The junior was 4-over at the turn but shot 2-under on the second nine to help get a pair of strokes back for the Aggies. Natalie Yen went 2-over 74 on Saturday to secure a piece of 109th. Sky Sudberry rounded out the lineup tied for 116th.
The Aggies tee off at 1:50 p.m. CT from No. 1 to begin the third day. Live stats for the tournament can be followed at scoreboard.clippd.com. After the cut on Sunday, Texas A&M will need to stay within the top eight after Monday's play to advance to match play for the fourth time in five years.
