Dickson Breaks School Record, Aggie Women Punch 17 Tickets to NCAA Outdoor Championships

FAYETTEVILLE – Texas A&M track & field's Camryn Dickson broke her own 200m school record, while the women's team punched 13 tickets to the NCAA Outdoor Championships on the final day of the NCAA West First Round Saturday at John McDonnell Field.
The Aggie women wrapped up a historic west regional securing 17 total entries to the national championships, including 13 on the final day. The Maroon & White's 17 entries to NCAA outdoors is five more than last season and is the most the team has secured since 2010. Dickson's new program best in the 200m was the highlight on the day, as she clocked 22.13 which ranks at No. 12 in NCAA history.
Abigail Martin was the first to advance to Eugene on the final day, as the junior secured her spot in the discus. She recorded two competitive throws and saved her best for last, delivering a mark of 57.98m/190-3 which was good for third in the field.
Setting the tone on the track was the women's 4x100m quartet of Anya Jackson, Dickson, Aysha Shaheed and Jasmine Montgomery. The group won the second heat of the event in a season-best time of 42.68 which advanced them to the national meet and moved them up to sixth on the A&M all-time performers list.
Debora Cherono joined the group heading to TrackTown, as she made it back-to-back years reaching the NCAA Championships in the 3,000m steeplechase. She ran in heat two and clocked a time of 10:04.81 which was good for second in the section and sixth overall.
A&M's standout hurdler, Jaiya Covington, continued to deliver and added another ticket to the Aggies' total. She ran 12.87 out of heat two of the 100m hurdles which was good for second in her section and fifth overall. Her qualification marks her fourth-straight year heading to the national meet.
The track was set ablaze in the 100m, as Dickson and Montgomery each added another event to their schedule in Eugene. Dickson joined the elite nationally in the event, running sub-11 seconds for the first time in her career. She crossed the line in 10.93 which was good for third overall in the event. Montgomery also delivered a season-best time after clocking 11.06 which earned her an automatic advancing spot.
Tacking on another two tickets was the 400m duo of Lacarthea Cooper and Jahnile Registre. Cooper was up first and left nothing to chance, running a personal-best time of 51.53 to earn automatic qualification out of heat two. Registre's heat came down to the wire, however the senior dug deep and delivered a season-best mark of 51.96 to earn the final timed advancing slot.
Texas A&M's sprint trio further separated themselves as a dominant unit in the 200m. Dickson blew away the field with her time of 22.13 out of the third-and-final heat. Her time downed her previous best of 22.15 atop of the record book. Montgomery added another impressive time, finishing in 22.38 which was good for fourth and Jackson rounded out the results clocking 22.57 which debuted her at No. 6 in the Aggie record books and placed her sixth in the contest.
Claiming the final individual ticket of the weekend was Machaeda Linton in the triple jump. The senior sat outside of the advancing spots entering her final jump, and needing a season best she delivered with a leap of 13.31m/43-8.
Rounding out the meet for A&M and securing the final spot at the national championships was the 4x400m team of Registre, Dickson, Montgomery and Cooper. The group finished in 3:28.61 which was good for second in their heat and seventh overall.
