COLLEGE STATION, Texas-- The top-ranked Texas A&M equestrian team remained undefeated on the season with a dominating 15-5 win over visiting No. 6 South Carolina Friday at the Brazos County Expo Complex.
The Aggies (7-0) won three of the four disciplines, including capturing nine of 10 hunter seat points, en route to the victory. The Gamecocks, meanwhile, fell to 2-4.
Highlighting the afternoon was a school-record 95-point ride by junior Lia Chafee on the flat, which uses a 100-point scale to grade riders. Chafee understandably took home MVP honors in the discipline, edging South Carolina's Kimberly McCormack by one point.
The fences riders got A&M off to a hot start on the day, sweeping all five points. With MVP Kori Pickett leading the charge, Emily Williams, Maggie Earle, Brooke Coleman and Chafee followed suit to stake the Aggies to an early 5-0 lead.
In horsemanship, Texas A&M extended its lead to 9-1. MVP honors went to Kelsey Adams, with Carey Nowacek, Amanda Brightwell and Katie Lisabeth also picking up victories.
Joining Chafee with victories on the flat and clinching the overall team victory for the maroon and white were Maggie Earle, Hannah Soibelman and Elizabeth Solch.
Reiners Abigail Grabein and Tara Christiansen picked up wins to round out the strong showing by A&M on the day.
The Aggies return to action and close out the home portion of the regular season on Saturday, Feb. 12 when they play host to Baylor. Show time is set for 11 a.m. at the Expo Complex and admission is free.
