
Equestrian Falls at SMU, 13-7

BARTONVILLE, Texas--The Texas A&M Equestrian team lost its first meet of the season to the SMU Mustangs, 7-13. The meet, held at Sleepy P Ranch in Bartonville, Texas, was the first road meet of the year for the Aggies.
The Mustangs dominated the Western discipline, taking wins in both events despite Texas A&M riders earning MOP honors in each of them. Sophomore Kaci Fisher scored one of two A&M points in Horsemanship and took home MOP honors in a 3-2 Aggie loss. Senior Laura Sumrall earned the MOP award for her 70-point performance in Reining, scoring the lone A&M point in a 4-1 loss. Sophomore Sarah Kate Grider also had a 70-point reining performance but was narrowly defeated by SMU's Morgan Redwine 70-70.5.
The Aggies fell short in Equitation over Fences, 1-4. The lone Aggie point was scored by Junior Marlena Parker in a 73-point performance. Three of the four points scored by SMU were decided by two points or less.
The Aggies were able to take one event of the day, Equitation on the flat, 3-2. MOP honors were awarded to Sophomore Anna Rea for her 78-65 rout of SMU's Alex Butterworth. Marlena Parker went 2-2 on the day with a 64-point performance in flat.
The Aggies will resume their regular season campaign at home on Saturday, October 25 at the Hildebrand Equine Complex in College Station, TX. The Aggies will host No. 10 South Dakota State.
