Kaci Fisher Represents Aggies Well in AQHA Horsemanship Challenge
Nov 19, 2015 | Equestrian
OKLAHOMA CITY, Oklahoma—Texas A&M junior Kaci Fisher took home Reserve Champion honors at the American Quarter Horse Association's (AQHA) horsemanship challenge, finishing in second place.
Fisher was one of just 16 riders selected from all over the country to participate in the competition, held on Sunday-Monday, Nov. 15-16. Participants were selected based on their 2014-2015 stats.
Fisher had a dominant year in the horsemanship discipline in 2014. Then a sophomore, Fisher led the horsemanship squad with a 10-3-2 record, including an eight-game win streak to start the season. The western rider took home two MVP's on the year while averaging an impressive 73.09 per ride. The underclassman's performance landed her on the All-Southeastern Conference horsemanship team for the first time in her career.
Fisher got off to a hot start in the competition, recording a 146 to top Cal Poly Pomona's McKenna Coveney. The win took her to the semi-final round where she defeated her opponent Heidi Netson of Western Ontario 152-146.5., a 76.0 average. The finals pitted her against representatives from perennial powerhouses Baylor, Georgia, and TCU. Bested only by SEC foe Georgia, Fisher rode her way into second place, returning to College Station as the reserve champion.
Fisher will rejoin the rest of the Aggie Equestrian team for a weekend double header in Felton, Delaware against Kansas State and Delaware State this Friday and Saturday, Nov. 20-21.
