No. 4 Texas A&M Falls to No. 1 Auburn, 11-9, at SEC Championships

AUBURN, Ala. – No. 4 Texas A&M Equestrian fell to No. 1 Auburn, 11-9, Friday in the first round of competition at the SEC Championships at the Auburn University Horse Center.
The Aggies (8-5) fell behind the Tigers (9-3) early after dropping the day's first event, Equitation over Fences, 3-2. Sophomore Rebekah Chenelle scored the first point for the Aggies with a 135-119 win over Alex Ladove. Following suit, junior Rachael Hake earned a narrow, 166-165, victory over Ashley Foster, moving to 11-2 on the season.
The Maroon & White rallied to tie the meet 5-5 in the Western arena after claiming Horsemanship, 3-2. Junior Bailey Cook tallied the opening point for Texas A&M after outscoring Hannah Stephens, 149.5-143.5. Sophomore Sarah Orsak knocked off Megan Rauh, 153-0, before senior Kaci Fisher's tight 155-154 victory over Kara Kaufmann. Fisher now leads the team with 11 wins in the event with five MOPs.
Auburn jumped out to a 9-6 lead following Equitation on the Flat after winning, 4-1. Sophomore Rebekah Chenelle logged the lone point for the Aggies after defeating Tory Hoft, 157-152.
In the final event, the Aggies battled back in Reining, winning 3-2. Senior Sarah McEntire led the way for Texas A&M with a 142-141.5 win over Blair McFarlin to earn MOP honors. Earning the following point, sophomore Haley Franc cut the Tiger lead, 9-8, after topping Kaufmann, 140-139. Junior Madison Bohman scored the final point of the day, 141.5-139.5, over Lauren Diaz.
Texas A&M will face off against South Carolina in the consolation bracket Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
