Georgia Head Coach Joni Taylor
On why Texas A&M shot more free throws than the Lady Dawgs…
"I think we need to be more aggressive. We fouled them, and we didn't get to the free-throw line enough. That starts with getting the ball inside and attacking. They were playing some zone, so we don't get as many opportunities as when they are playing man, but this is the second game that we had single-digit free throw attempts. It means we aren't being aggressive enough to get the ball inside."
On ways to fix the slow starts the Lady Dawgs have been experiencing…
"I think we have to get back to being consistent. The last two games we have not been consistent. It showed up. I tell them all the time, we have to control the things we can control. We put it in their hands. It affected us. We have to play Georgia basketball and be aggressive. We just haven't really done that the last two games."
On the message Coach Taylor gave the team after the Missouri loss…
"Execution. We did not execute on either sides of the ball during the Missouri game. You look at them on both ends, and they are a really good team but, still, we didn't execute. We made mistakes. It's a 40-minute game. No one is perfect, but our mistakes are a lack of execution on both sides of the court, and that stems from a lack of focus."
Georgia #14 Jenna Staiti
On what you guys as a team have to do to make sure this season doesn't spiral out of control…
"I think we are at a good point right now where we have a bye-week to focus on us and watch a lot of film. We can look at the things we are doing wrong but also the things that we are doing right in the games and continue to execute. In practice, we need to get better at correcting those things and focusing on what we need to do."
On some of the little things that need improving…
"Punching first. I think it is all about the first punch. You know, for me, I see that as something that gives us a ton of energy. When we are turning the ball over, not forcing turnovers from the other team and getting that energy we need, we don't look like the same team. I think the first punch that we throw is all game for us. It is money."
Georgia #4 Caliya Robinson
On if you have to step up as a leader to help this team keep things in tact…
"Everything for this team is more so a team thing. I don't consider myself a leader, I just consider myself a big part of this team. We have different roles, but when we play our roles together we play phenomenal. We just have to knit-pick at the little things in order for us to continue our season strong. I think one thing we need to do is to go watch film and see what we have been doing wrong and how we can fix those things."
On Texas A&M's rebounding abilities and what they were doing to frustrate on the offensive end…
"I don't think we were frustrated at all. I think we got the shots that we needed. We just need to box out and sometimes you rotate the help and there was always that one person loose. Sometimes you just can't get back fast enough to get the rebound."
Georgia #2 Gabby Connally
On what was working for you tonight with tallying 18 points…
"I think coming right out of the gate my first shot went in. I think a lot of times, I don't want to say just for shooters, but if someone's first shot goes in, the basket becomes bigger and your confidence just builds from there. I have really great teammates and coaching staff that have continually praised me and encouraged me to continue shooting even if my shots aren't necessarily falling. That builds my confidence even more, so I think without them I wouldn't take as many shots and wouldn't feel as confident taking that many shots. Just knowing they have my back and they want me to shoot the ball helps a lot."
On if the high at Tennessee and then such a low at Missouri killed the team's confidence…
"No, I don't think it killed our confidence at all. It was actually fuel to the fire because like you said we had a great win against Tennessee here at home then went to Missouri and didn't play well at all, no other way around it. Our coaches were on us, we went back to watch film to see what we did wrong. A lot of it was just mental breakdowns on our part, we were not executing. I think in this game, even though we didn't win, we had less mental breakdowns and we were doing what we were supposed to do at times, but there were still lapses that we need to correct. Those were the times the other teams go on a run. It is not based off of anything they do that is special, it is things we do mentally when we have a slip-up if we are supposed to go over screens and we go under, stuff like that. That loss at Missouri ignites a fire in us because we know that is not who we are and that is not how we play. Today we just wanted to come out and play our hardest and I think we played really hard. I thought we played with a purpose. Even though we didn't get a win, we moved in the right direction from the Missouri game."
Texas A&M Head Coach Gary Blair
On the game…
"Firstly, I would like to commend Georgia for having a great crowd. That is the largest crowd we've played against this year because it just so happens that South Carolina, Tennessee and Mississippi State have come to our place. We needed to play in front of a crowd like that, that was so good. Georgia, we're all about the same as far as ability. We all have scorers, rebounders and impact players."
On Georgia's foul trouble...
"Fouls can determine a ball game. They got in to more foul trouble than we did. I mean all you have to do is look at the stats, 18 out of 25, that's pretty good free throw shooting. But, when Georgia came back and tied it at 55-55, we stared it in the face and did something about it. It all started with rebounding and defense first."
Texas A&M Sophomore, Forward, #31 N'dea Jones
On the environment…
"I think we learned that we can play in an environment like this. We are able to listen to our coaches and keep our composure. We were able to come and complete our goal, to win. It was a big stage, the crowd was good, the band kept booing us but I think we blocked it all out really well. We listened to each other and were really able to communicate with each other."
Texas A&M Sophomore, Guard, #3 Chennedy Carter
On attacking first…
"Every game we start out with the confidence that we're going to come out and compete. We knew that they were going to come out and throw different defenses at us. I want to say congrats to my teammates. We all stayed composed and calm, we held composure this ball game and led the entire time. That was a big thing for us and we led the entire time because of it."
