Women’s Hoops Falls to McNeese in First Round of WBIT

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M women's basketball team fell to McNeese in the opening round of the WBIT, 68-48, Thursday night inside Reed Arena.
The Aggies were led by Ny'Ceara Pryor who recorded 16 points, four assists, three rebounds and three steals, to conclude her historic career as the only player in DI history to have at least 2,200 points, 550 assists and 450 steals. Pryor's 454 career steals tied her for 13th all-time in the steals category alongside Naismith Hall of Famer Dawn Staley.
Both teams came out physical on defense to begin the game, holding each other scoreless for the first 3:41 of action. Fatmata Janneh jump-started the offense, recording the first four points for the Aggies but two three-pointers put McNeese up 8-4 at the 3:33 mark in the first. The Maroon & White were unable to cut into the deficit as the Cowgirls held a 10-6 advantage going into the second quarter.
Janae Kent provided a six-point spark in the Texas A&M offense to start the period, but McNeese was able to extend its lead to 25-14 with 3:26 remaining in the quarter. The Aggies faced a 12-point disadvantage going into the locker room, 32-20.
The Aggie offense found a rhythm to start the second half, as it recorded 10 points in 3:13 minutes of half to cut the deficit to nine, 39-30. However, the Cowgirls pushed their lead to 13 by the end of the frame, 48-35.
The Aggies were unable to close the gap in the fourth as the Cowgirls would go onto win, 68-48.
