Apr 19, 2024 | Equestrian
OCALA, Fla.- The No. 4 Texas A&M equestrian teams season came to an end following an 11-9 defeat to No. 1 TCU Friday afternoon at the World Equestrian Center in Ocala, Florida.
The Aggies took control early in Fences winning 3-2 as Devon Thomas starred again with an 87.17 on Emil to remain unbeaten this postseason. Freshmen standout Kate Egan reached 10 wins totaling a 79.67 and Alexa Leong rounded out the scoring with an 83.67 on Campo.
In Reining, the Maroon & White battled hard but came up short 3-2. First Team All-American Mattie Gustin cruised to a victory with a 70 on Goose and Gracie Casebolt added a point with a narrow win, 70.67-70.5.
At the conclusion of Fences and Reining, the meet was all knotted up at 5-5.
Texas A&M opened the second half of the meet narrowly dropping Flat 3-2. All-American Honorable Mention Maggie Nealon registered a point with a ride of 76.33 and Nicole McMillion followed with a 76 on Snookie.
Heading into Horsemanship, the Aggies needed to secure three points to draw even with the Horned Frogs. Ella Petak defeated her opponent 75.33-74 and Hannah Olaussen tallied a point winning 74.67-72. During Horsemanship, there was a lengthy review which led to the disqualification of a TCU rider. Later in the competition, that disqualification was reversed due to an interpretation of the NCEA rulebook. The decision led to the final horsemanship score of 3-2 in favor of the Horned Frogs and ultimately an 11-9 defeat.
