Women’s Swimming & Diving Tops Cougars in Dual Meet Action

HOUSTON – The No. 25 Texas A&M women's swimming & diving team topped the Houston Cougars in a dual meet on Thursday afternoon at the CRWC Natatorium on the UH campus.
 
The Aggies won with a final score of 166-133, taking victories in 11 of 16 possible events.
 
Junior transfer Ava Whitaker led the way with a trio of individual victories. She swept the 100 and 200 butterfly in 52.55 and 1:55.01, respectively, as well as the 100 IM in 55.47. Senior Kaitlyn Owens also picked up a pair of victories in the 100 backstroke (53.29) and 50 freestyle (23.09).
 
Chipping in solo swim victories were junior Katie Walker and sophomore Macy Lewis. Walker won the 200 free in 1:49.20 and Lewis touched first in the 200 back in 1:56.83. The Aggie divers swept the springboard dives with sophomore Bridget Foster winning the 3-meter with a score of 331.80 and sophomore Julie Moons taking the 1-meter with a score of 292.65.
 
Contributing second place victories were Ella McQuinn, Lillie Sczech, and Hannah O'Leary. McQuinn took second in the 100 breast (1:00.72) and the 100 free (50.25), Sczech touched second in the 200 breast in 2:13.61, and O'Leary took second in the 500 free in 4:53.22.
 
The Aggies opened the meet with a first-place finish in the 400 medley relay with the women's quartet of Owens, McQuinn, Whitaker, and Eloise Williamson touching in 3:36.70. The Maroon & White closed out the meet with the with a victory in the 200 free relay with the foursome of Owens, McQuinn, Williamson and Reagan Sherrard finishing in 1:31.74.
