Three Aggies Advance in Day Two of ITA Sectionals

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – Texas A&M's Violeta Martinez and the doubles tandem of Mia Kupres/Daria Smetannikov advanced on day two of ITA Central Sectional Tournament, Friday at Mitchell Tennis Center.
In doubles, No. 38 Kupres/Smetannikov moved to the semifinals with a thrilling 6-4, 6-7(6), [10-7] victory over No. 60 Emma Rizzetto/Conley Raidt of Nebraska.
Transfer phenom Violeta Martinez showed out in straight sets against No. 70 Oyinlomo Quadre of Oklahoma, 6-2, 6-4, to advance to the quarterfinals.
No. 64 Smetannikov fell short against Hailey Murphy of Texas Tech, 6-2, 7-5 in her round of 16 match.
On Saturday, Kupres/Smetannikov battle Iowa State's Stanislava Shulzhenko/Maria de la Paz Alberto for a chance to qualify for the NCAA Doubles Championship. Martinez faces No. 26 Lily Jones of Michigan.
In Waco, freshman Anna Perelman took down UTRGV's Madeleine Joffe, 6-1, 6-1, for a semifinal spot at the H-E-B Invitational.
