LEXINGTON – The Texas A&M volleyball team was one of 10 schools selected for the season-opening American Volleyball Coaches Association's First Serve event, the organization announced Monday.
Following a Sweet 16 run in the 2024 NCAA Tournament, the Maroon & White were selected as one of the programs to kick off the 2025 volleyball calendar with a star-studded neutral site fixture in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where they are slated to face Minnesota on Aug. 25 at the Sanford Pentagon.
"We're extremely grateful and honored to be selected for the AVCA First Serve event," head coach Jamie Morrison said. "I can't wait to showcase the work our team has and will put in throughout the Spring and Summer, as we prepare to compete against a storied program like Minnesota to kick off our 2025 season."
The Maroon & White are one of four teams set to compete in South Dakota, as they play the Golden Gophers, while Kansas and Penn State will face off on the same day. The remaining teams will compete in the second location of the event in Lincoln, Nebraska, Aug. 22-24. The 10-team lineup includes nine NCAA Tournament teams, including three programs who reached the Final Four, and newly reestablished Vanderbilt.
Through two seasons under coach Morrison, A&M has secured its first 20-win season since 2019 and its first Sweet 16 trip in the same time span.
The Aggies return 12 of the 15 members of the 2024 roster, while adding a redshirt-sophomore transfer from Baylor and four freshmen, which made up the No. 7 recruiting class in the country.
Tickets for the First Serve event in Sioux Falls are available through Ticketmaster and go on presale March 6 and open to the general public March 14.
