Texas A&M Set for SEC Title Game Against Oklahoma

ATHENS – The No. 2 seed Texas A&M softball team is set to battle No. 1 seed Oklahoma in the SEC Tournament Final Saturday at 12 p.m. at Jack Turner Stadium.
Saturday's final game will broadcast nationally on SEC Network with Beth Mowins (play-by-play), Michele Smith (analyst) and Texas A&M Hall of Famer Amanda Scarborough (analyst) in the booth, while Holly Rowe is reporting live from the field. All Aggie softball games can be heard on the 12th Man Mobile app or locally on Willy 1550 AM with Matt Simon as the play-by-play voice in his 11th season with Texas A&M softball. SEC TOURNAMENT NOTES
Texas A&M (45-9) advanced to the SEC Tournament title game for the first time in program history after defeating No. 3 seed Texas, 14-2, in the semifinals and No. 7 seed South Carolina, 12-4, in the quarterfinal round. Through two games, A&M has set SEC Tournament records in runs (26) and RBI (25), while the 14-2 win against Texas is the largest margin of victory in the history of the SEC Tournament. A&M's 14 runs against Texas were the most scored by a team in SEC Tournament history, bettering their own record by two after scoring a dozen in the quarterfinal round. A&M is 4-10 all-time at the SEC Tournament, while three of the wins have come in the Trisha Ford era. The Aggies have a +16 run differential in three SEC Tournament appearances under Ford, compared to a -11 run differential over eight appearances prior to 2023. Individually, Amari Harper set an SEC Tournament single game record driving in a career-high six RBI against the Longhorns. Freshman KK Dement has nine RBI in two games, matching the record set by Skylar Wallace of Florida in 2024.

Ol' Sarge's charges have scored double-digit runs in 20 games this season, while winning 18 games via run-rule. The Maroon & White have outscored their opponents 168-66 in road games, while outscoring ranked opponents 183-117. Texas A&M is 31-0 in games when scoring six or more runs, including 13 games against ranked opponents. Kennedy Powell has steadily been climbing the Texas A&M all-time ranks in scoring. The junior finished with 24 runs in the SEC regular season, matching a program best set by Kaitlyn Alderink in 2016. Powell is only four runs away from breaking the Aggie program record of 60 runs in a season set by Sharonda McDonald in 2007. The Aggies are 33-5 in games when Powell scores a run, including a 16-1 record when she scores multiple times.
ROAD WARRIORS
The Maroon & White are 20-3 in games played outside of Aggieland, including a 11-2 ledger against ranked opponents. Notable wins against ranked opponents include the bookend games at No. 2 Tennessee, doubleheader sweeps at No. 8 Florida State and No. 16 Georgia, as well as a series sweep at No. 22 Auburn and a pair of SEC Tournament wins on neutral ground against No. 5 Texas and No. 12 South Carolina. Texas A&M is batting .334 in games on the road, while Koko Wooley (.483), Mya Perez (.412) and Amari Harper (.411) are each batting over .400. Dement leads the group with seven homers, while Perez has belted six home runs and Harper with four. Emiley Kennedy is 11-1 in games away from Davis Diamond, while boasting a 2.57 ERA in 73.2 innings pitched with 78 strikeouts and holding to opposing hitters to a .180 batting average. Texas A&M lost starting catcher Olivia Johnson to a season-ending lower leg injury leading to Mac Barbara making her first appearances at catcher since 2023, while Kelsey Mathis has taken advantage of her opportunities in right field. The Aggies are 5-1 in the last six games since Barbara has made the move to catcher, including a series win at No. 2 Tennessee and ranked wins against No. 5 Texas and No. 12 South Carolina. Despite the added work behind the dish, Barbara has maintained being a threat at the plate batting .313 with one home run, one double, six RBI and four runs, while being walked five times. Kelsey Mathis has started the past three games, including her first SEC career start in the regular season finale and each game of the SEC Tournament. In the regular season finale, Kelsey Mathis made only her second career start and her first SEC start at No. 2 Tennessee. The Waco, Texas, native filled the stat sheet going 2-for-2, including her first career home run finishing the game with two RBI, three runs and one walk. The freshman made her second consecutive start in right field in the quarterfinal game against No. 12 South Carolina as she provided a two-out four run rally in the second inning.

The Sooners opened the SEC Tournament with a 4-1 victory over No. 9 seed LSU before edging No. 5 seed Arkansas in a walk-off thriller. Oklahoma trailed the semifinal game against the Razorback by five runs before storming back and belting an SEC Tournament record six homers. The Sooners earned nine different All-SEC honors, including Patty Gasso being named the SEC Coach of the Year and Sam Landry the Newcomer of the Year. Landry, Kasidi Pickering, Nelly McEnroe-Marinas earned All-SEC First Team, while Gabbie Garcia and Ailana Agbayani garnered second team honors.
