May 14, 2025 | Men's Golf
AUBURN – The No. 12 Texas A&M men's golf team earned a bid to next week's NCAA Championship with a runner-up finish at the Auburn Regional.
The Aggies shot 4-under 284 in the final round at the par-72, 7,602-yard Auburn University Club, closing out the tournament at 5-under 859. The Maroon & White finished behind host Auburn (-32). The three other NCAA Championship spots went to UCLA (+6), Purdue (+9) and Georgia Tech (+10). SMU (+15) was the top team to miss the cut.
Texas A&M moved on to the NCAA Championship for the fourth consecutive year and the sixth time in the last seven regionals.
Aaron Pounds led the Aggies for the second consecutive day, posting his second straight 2-under 70. He wrapped up the regional tied for seventh place at 3-under 213.
Phichaksn Maichon also finished in seventh place at 3-under 213 with his 1-under 71 in Wednesday's loop.
Michael Heidelbaugh matched Pounds' 70 in the final round. The senior was bogey-free in his last trip around the Auburn University Club. He finished tied for 10th place at 2-under 214.
Wheaton Ennis and Jaime Montojo completed the fivesome with tallies of 3-over 219 and 8-over 224 to finish tied for 20th and 38th, respectively.

Head Coach Brian Kortan
On how the team handled the challenges of a regional…
"You know Gerrod (women's head coach Gerrod Chadwell) texted me and said, 'Congratulations' and I just said 'man, it's never easy.' And that's kind of how it is. As a coach, you've got to trust your guys and the time and effort you've put in. You have to trust they're going to go out and get the job done. That's kind of a big thing – trusting the time we've spent together and the improvement and growth and hope you've put them in enough situations that they can handle the duress that a regional provides."
On Wednesday's round...
"The guys played a complete round. We had some really solid scorecards. The strength of what we did today on that golf course was we didn't make many bogeys so our birdies stood out. Mike (Heidelbaugh) was bogey-free. Aaron (Pounds) was really solid. P (Phichaksn Maichon) made one bogey. I think between those three guys we had just three bogeys. That's pretty awesome.
On making four straight NCAA Championships...
"It's the sport. Softball does it, baseball does it, the women's team (golf), the tennis teams do it. You play a great regular season, but you hope that prepares you for these moments that are heavy. You hope you have the fortitude and scars from the year to get you through it. We all do it. It's what we coach. It's a heck of a deal when you get to regionals, because your nervous, but you're excited. You trust your team, but you see things that could happen. It's really hard to describe unless you can go through it in a coach's shoes. Bottom line is you just have to believe in what you've done and how you've grown together and trust that in the end it will win out."
