Jun 20, 2025 | Track and Field
NEW ORLEANS – The Texas A&M track & field team garnered five of the eight U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association South Central Region Awards, the organization announce Friday.
Following a national title for the men's team and third-place finish for the women's squad at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, head coach Pat Henry was named both USTFCCCA Men's and Women's Coach of the Year. The men's title marked their fifth outdoor crown and the programs 10th total National Championship under Henry's leadership. His group also captured three individual titles, on their way to the pair of top-three finishes.
Pole vault phenom, Aleksandr Solovev, continued to collect postseason awards as he was named the region's Men's Field Athlete of the Year following his national championship in the pole vault with a clearance of 5.78m/18-11.5. His mark was the fourth-highest title-winning clearance in championship history and broke his own school record. This was Solovev's second honor during the outdoor season, as he was also named SEC Newcomer Field Athlete of the Year after his conference title in May.
Winny Bii secured the sweep of the Field Athlete of the Year honors, as she won the women's award after capturing A&M's first national crown in the triple jump. The junior standout leaped 13.96m/45-9.75 on her opening attempt which held throughout the event, securing her first NCAA title. Like Solovev, this was Bii's second award of the postseason as she too earned SEC Newcomer Field Athlete of the Year following her silver medal at the SEC Championships.
Rounding out the awards was assistant coach Mario Sategna, as he was named Women's Assistant Coach of the Year. Leading both the jump and multi groups for the Aggies, Sategna was responsible for 16 of the women's team's 43 points. He coached Bii to her national title in the women's triple jump, while also guiding freshman Sofia Yakushina to a third-place finish in the heptathlon and an NCAA freshman heptathlon record of 6,260 points earlier this season.
