ATLANTA – Texas A&M left-hander Justin Lamkin was selected by the Kansas City Royals with the 71st pick in the Competitive Balance Round B of the 2025 Major League Baseball Draft Sunday evening from the Coca-Cola Roxy in Atlanta, Georgia.
With the pick, the Aggies have had at least two players taken in every draft since 1984, which is the longest streak in the nation.
Lamkin compiled a 3.42 ERA in 15 starts during a strong junior campaign for the Aggies. The left-hander struck out 98 batters in 84 1/3 innings of work, both of which led the team. The Corpus Christi, Texas, native also held a 1.10 WHIP and limited opponents to a .235 batting average.
In his final start of the regular season, Lamkin punched out a career-high 15 batters in a complete game shutout on the road against No. 10 Georgia. The junior's first career complete game shutout earned him SEC Pitcher of the Week honors along with National Pitcher of the Week honors from the College Baseball Foundation, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and Perfect Game. In the outing, the left-hander did not allow a walk or a three-ball count.
Throughout his three-year career in Aggieland, Lamkin made 53 appearances on the mound with 41 starts. The lefty totaled 260 strikeouts, which ranks inside the top 20 in program history, in 209 1/3 innings of work.
