Five Aggies Advance to Semifinals on Opening Day of USATF Outdoor Championships

EUGENE – Five Aggies advanced to semifinals on the opening day of the USA Track & Field Championships Thursday at Hayward Field.
Texas A&M's pros got the meet started in the 800m, as the men's duo of Brandon Miller and Donavan Brazier dominated their respective heats of the first round to advance to the semifinals. Miller topped heat two with a time of 1:46.16, while Brazier won the fourth heat in 1:48.23. In the women's event, Athing Mu followed suit capturing first in the second heat and booked her spot in the next round with a time of 2:00.06, while Sammy Watson also qualified for the semifinals after finishing fourth in heat two in 2:01.14.
Current student-athlete, Jasmine Montgomery, joined the advancing group in the women's 100m, as she secured an automatic-qualification finish in heat four with a time of 11.25.
Timara Chapman kicked off her heptathlon campaign, ranking fifth after the first four events with 3,623 points. She started the day in the 100m hurdles, where she crossed the line in 13.52. The 2024 NCAA Champion followed that up with a leap of 1.78m/5-10 in the high jump, a toss of 12.48m/40-11.5 in the shot put and rounded out the day with a mark of 24.53 in the 200m.
