Aug 29, 2025 | Cross Country
FORT WORTH – The Texas A&M cross country team swept the team titles for the second time in back-to-back appearances at the John McKenzie Invitational Friday morning at the AP Ranch Championship Cross Country Course.
The Aggies started the 2025 campaign on the front foot, as they put on a dominant showing to sweep the team titles in the season opener. The women secured all top-five spots, while Megan Roberts claimed the individual crown. For the men Gavin Chapa paced the group, finishing second in his collegiate debut and led the men to the team win.
"Both teams ran really well," distance coach Wendel McRaven said. "The Women put on a great display of team running. Kennady [Fontenot], Megan [Roberts], Joyce [Kemboi] and Sophia [Bendet] looked really good. Alexandra [Fox] and Elise [Smoot] did a nice job of closing the door. On the men's side, Jack [Johnston], Gavin [Chapa] and Carter [Gordy] showed a lot of maturity in racing and ran as a team. Hunter [Jackson] and Noah [Willows] both are starting the season at a higher level than they finished last year. Overall, a very solid season opener."
Roberts headlined the women, as she concluded the race with a time of 17:53.32 ensuring a first-place finish. Fontenot placed second with a mark of 17:53.34 and was followed by Kemboi in third (17:56.03), Bendet in fourth place (18.03.26) and Fox in fifth place clocking a time of 18.21.38.
