Cross Country Gears up for Texas A&M Invitational
Sep 11, 2025 | Cross Country
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M cross country team gears up for its home opener as it hosts the 12th annual Texas A&M Invitational Saturday morning at the Dale Watts Cross Country Course. The men's race starts at 8 a.m., while the women's begins at 8:35 a.m.
The Aggies return home after putting on a dominant performance at the John McKenzie Invitational, sweeping the team titles in their second-consecutive appearance at the meet. The women's group was headlined by Megan Roberts who captured the individual crown, while Gavin Chapa paced the men's contest for the Maroon & White finishing second in his collegiate debut.
"We are fired up to get the chance to race at home," distance coach Wendel McRaven said. "Our kids love our home course, and we always get great crowds out at Watts. The level of competition will step up this week compared to two weeks ago at TCU. We're still bringing our team along and building towards the championship season. This will give us a great test to see where we are, the progress we are making and where we need to improve."
The Maroon & White prepare for the 12th edition of the Texas A&M Invitational and are coming off a pair of second-place team finishes at the meet from the 2024 season. The women enter three of the five-point scorers from last year's race, including San Juanita Leal, Maddie Peters and Roberts, while Jack Johnston is the lone point scorer for the men from last season's race entered this year.
Texas A&M will be competing against 16 women's teams and 14 men's, including Blinn College, Dallas Baptist, Houston, Nelson University, North Texas, Ouachita Baptist, Our Lady of the Lake, Prairie View, Sam Houston, San Diego State (W), SMU (W), St. Edward's, TCU, UC San Diego, UT-Arlington and UT-Tyler.
