Late Goal Dooms Aggies at Auburn
Sep 18, 2025 | Soccer
AUBURN – The Texas A&M soccer team surrendered the lone goal in 84th minute of Thursday evening's 1-0 loss to the Auburn Tigers at AU Soccer Complex.
The Tigers' Olivia Woodson scored the game-winner off a cross from Erin Flurey leaving the Maroon & White just 6:37 to find an equalizer. Texas A&M (3-3-3, 0-2-0 SEC) had a corner kick and free kick late, but were unable to convert.
The late goal foiled a career-best effort from Maysen Veronda in goal. The Aggie netminder made 10 saves, including seven in the first half.
Auburn (5-2-2, 1-0-1 SEC) owned the advantages in shots (19-5) and corner kicks (9-3).
The rough-and-tumble Tigers also bruised to the tune of 13-8 in the foul column, but no cards were shown in the match. A video review of an Auburn hip check of Holly Storer in the box with just under 12 minutes remaining came up negative for Texas A&M in what was one of their better threats late in the match.

On Maysen Veronda's effort in goal...
"I was so pleased for her because she was dynamite tonight. She's been great all week and that's why she was a starter tonight. She was cool under pressure and did a great job in leading the backline. She stepped when she had to and the goal that was scored wasn't a goal that anybody was going to be able to get because it was a really well struck header into the upper corner."
On the rough-and-tumble 90-minute battles in the SEC...
"Yeah... this is the second time we've lost a game in the last five minutes and it's unacceptable in this league. You've got to step up and be able to play. Our players played hard, but you've got to be able to handle not just the effort, but the physicality of this league. You've got to be able to keep the ball. The bottom line tonight was that we just gave the ball back too often and that's not what you can do if you plan on having any results in this league."
