Martinez Claims Win, Moves into Finals

HOUSTON – Newcomer Violeta Martinez earned a win on day two of the Rice Invitational, pushing herself into the Finals at George Brown Tennis Center.
Martinez took down UH's Elizaveta Morozova 6-3, 6-4, in Flight 1 Singles to stay undefeated in singles on the weekend.
Martinez faces Houston's Valeriia Krokhotina in her finals match Sunday.
Two Aggies dropped matches in Saturday's results. In Flight 1 Singles, Sweden, Tilde Stromquist fell to Chems Doha Zeghlouli of Houston, 7-6(5), 6-3. Avery Esquivel was bested by UTSA's Natalia Castaneda, 6-4, 6-0.
Action picks up with singles finals and consolation matches Sunday.
Martinez and freshman Anna Perelman fell in a grueling tie-breaker against Houston's Chems Doha Zeghlouli/Sophie Schouten in the Flight 1 Doubles, 7-6(2).
