BIRMINGHAM – The Texas A&M track & field team collected three SEC weekly awards in the final outing of the regular season, the league announced Tuesday.
Henry Zimmerman secured his first SEC weekly honor after being named Men's Field Athlete of the Week following a school-record breaking performance in the weight throw at the Iowa Open. He downed his previous mark at the top of the all-time performers list on his sixth-and-final throw, recording a toss of 22.96m/75-4. The mark moved him up to No. 2 in the SEC and No. 8 nationally in the event this year.
Machaeda Linton also earned a debut conference nod, garnering the Women's Field Athlete of the Week award. The senior stood out in the long jump, leaping a season-best mark of 6.51m/21-4.25 to win the Arkansas Qualifier. Her jump helped her climb from No. 10 to No. 4 in the A&M record books and ranked her eighth nationally. She added another podium finish to her weekend, claiming second in the triple jump with a mark of 12.89m/42-3.5.
Rounding out the honors was Lily Carlson, who earned her second Women's Freshman of the Week accolade and third overall weekly award of the indoor season. The freshman placed third in the pole vault at the Arkansas Qualifier with a clearance of 4.15m/13-7.25 which marked her fifth top-three finish of the season.
The Aggies prepare to host the SEC Indoor Championships this week, Feb. 26-28, at the R.A. 'Murray' Fasken '38 Indoor Track & Field facility.
