Jun 25, 2026 | Track and Field
NEW ORLEANS – Texas A&M track & field's Zaza Nnamdi was named a semifinalist for The Bowerman, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced Thursday.
Nnamdi is one of 10 men named to The Bowerman semifinalist group and is one of only two field athletes up for selection. The Awka, Nigeria, native becomes the ninth Aggie on the men's team to land on the semifinalist ballot and the first since 2017.
The senior capped off a stellar college career on top, winning the NCAA Outdoor Championship title in the javelin. He recorded a toss of 82.26m/269-10 on his opening attempt that stayed as the top mark of the event and made him the third national champion in the javelin in program history. Nnamdi added a second postseason title to his resume, capturing the SEC gold medal following a toss of 81.20m/266-5.
Earlier in the season Nnamdi cemented himself as one of the greatest throwers in NCAA history, as he recorded a personal-best throw of 84.68m/277-10 at the Tom Jones Memorial. The mark ranks at No. 2 in the A&M record book, No. 4 in NCAA history and No. 7 in African history.
His standout senior campaign was recognized by the coaches around the nation, as Nnamdi was named the USTFCCCA South Central Region Men's Field Athlete of the Year. His selection marked back-to-back years that the Maroon & White won the award, as Aleksandr Solovev was the recipient last season, while the nod is the seventh for the accolade in school history.
The Bowerman, which debuted in 2009 and is named after former University of Oregon coach Bill Bowerman, is presented annually by the USTFCCCA to the most outstanding male and female NCAA track & field athletes in the nation.
