
Ashby, Fontenot Named to SEC Community Service Team

BIRMINGHAM – Texas A&M track & field's Grant Ashby and Kennady Fontenot were named to the SEC Community Service Team, the league announced Thursday.
Ashby has been a standout for the track & field program for his performance in competition and his service in the community. The junior's first area of impact in the is with the Aggies Can initiative which is the largest student-athlete volunteer run canned food drive in the nation, the collections help give back and impact the Brazos Valley.
He also shows his support around the athletic department and gave back to the 12th Man at Texas A&M volleyball's Halloween night game, as he volunteered with their trick or treat event where student athletes interacted with children in the local community.
Finally, he works with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), whose goal is to serve local communities around the globe by engaging, equipping and empowering coaches and athletes to unite, inspire and change the world through the gospel.
Fontenot has racked up over 40 hours of service throughout her time in Aggieland, covering a plethora of areas and initiatives. One focus of hers is helping the youth in the area, as she is heavily involved in the local initiative 'Revved up to Read' promoting literacy in the local area.
Sticking to her track routes, Fontenot helps spread her love for running through 'Run Your City' which strives to build a future where collegiate athletes join with local communities to ensure team sports are accessible to all kids regardless of socioeconomic factors.
The New Braunfels, Texas, native's service to the youth of the Brazos Valley spans to the Charlotte Sharp Children's Center which is to support Texas A&M students and faculty as well as others in the area to support professional and educational goals. The center works closely with academic departments to provide educational opportunities and experiences for students.
