
Aggie Riders Wrangle TCU 14-2

The Texas A&M equestrian team handed Texas Christian an emphatic 14-2 defeat on Saturday at N.W. Dick Freeman Arena.
Were it not for TCU?™s Carrie von Uhlit, the Aggies may very well have not lost a match all day. The A&M hunter seat riders were a perfect 8-0 while the western squad went 6-2, with both losses coming at the hands of von Uhlit.
Junior Ashlie Soderstrom (Lake Oswego, Ore.) won her second MVP honor of the season in equitation on the flat thanks to her performance in an 85-52 win over the Horned Frogs J.J. Whichard. Sophomore Courtney Brooks (Alamo, Calif.) earned the first MVP honor of her career in an 85-70 fences win over Chelsea Stevens.
On the western side, Tonna Brooks (Newberg, Ore.) kept on rolling with her sixth consecutive two-victory outing. Brooks, who is now a perfect 12-0 on the season, won MVP honors for her 71-66.5 defeat of TCU?™s Jessica Bailey while defeating Allie Royder 71-68.5 in horsemanship.
A&M?™s dynamic freshman western duo of Maggie Gratny (Leavenworth, Kan.) and Caroline Gunn (Greensburg, Ind.) kept their undefeated streaks going in their respective categories. Gratny rolled to a 72-68 win over Kindel Huffman in reining while Gunn shot down Nicole Barnes of the Horned Frogs, 74-72.5, in horsemanship.
Sophomore Christina Heine (Toledo, Ohio) moved her seasonal record over fences to 2-0 with a 76-74 win over Caitlin Sewell. Junior Katie Henion (Austin) won her sixth fence ride in seven attempts with a 79-20 win over Toni Rogers. Sophomore Erin Ivy (Cypress) moved her season record over fences to 4-3 with a 83-75 win over Emma Carl.
On the flat, sophomore Christina Matz (McKinney) kept her flawless season record going with a 82-71 win over TCU?™s Kindel Huffman. Matz is a perfect 6-0 on the season. Sophomore Ali Mueller (Long Beach, Miss.) moved her record to 4-1 in a 72-44 win over Kat Rhode. Junior co-captain Viviana Cordero (Sunland, Calif.) earned a 74-67 win over TCU?™s Caitlin Sewell.
Back on the western side, sophomore Sibyl Parsons (Combine) moved to 5-1-1 in horsemanship with a 69.5-66.5 win over Jessica Bailey. Freshman Maddi Williams (Valley View) improved to 4-1-1 with a 71-68 win over Chloe Baker as well.
With the win, Texas A&M improves to 7-1, having won their last five consecutive competitions. TCU falls to 0-4 in their first year as a varsity program.
The Aggie equestrian team will be back at it again in the morning as they face Big 12 rival Kansas State (4-5) at 10 a.m. at N.W. ?'Dick?™ Freeman Arena. Kansas State earned a 10-8 win over Baylor in Waco on Saturday.
