STILLWATER, Okla. - The third-ranked Texas A&M equestrian team won its third consecutive show with a 15-12 win at No. 4 Oklahoma State Saturday afternoon at the Animal Science Arena.
The Aggies (4-2) claimed both of the hunter seat disciplines and earned a draw in reining in order to pick up the overall victory. A&M rode a season-high seven in each discipline, claiming two MVP honors - Lia Chafee in fences and Courtney Dawe in reining.
"I'm so proud of the entire team again today," head coach Tana McKay said. "The hunter seat team had a stellar day, and overall we were able to pull off another huge win on the road."
The hunter seat team posted a six-point win on the afternoon, defeating the Cowgirls 6-1 on the flat and 4-3 over fences.
Christina Heine, Brittney Dodson, Elizabeth Solch, Jackie O'Connell, Lindsay Smith and Kori Pickett added tallies for the fences squad. Chafee earned the MVP honors with an 80-78 win over Ally Blais.
"I was extremely proud of the fence team," hunter seat coach Linzy Woolf said. "It was a close competition, but our girls kept their composure and rode some smooth and smart rides - which can be tough to do on the road. On the flat, we had an exciting afternoon, putting together another show of polished and correct rides. We're looking forward to carrying this momentum into our final show of the fall season."
Oklahoma State earned the overall western victory, 8-5. In the horsemanship discipline, Cailey Dreyer picked up victories for the Aggies. On the reining side, Dawe, Abigail Grabein and Maggie Gratny each scored points for A&M. Dawe earned MVP honors thanks to a 72.5-67.5 victory over Molly Tipton.
Texas A&M closes out the fall season on Saturday, November 21 when the Aggies host South Dakota State. The show is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. at the Brazos County Expo Complex in Bryan.
