BRYAN, Texas - The second-ranked Texas A&M equestrian team remained unbeaten on the season with a 14-11 win over No. 4-ranked and rival Oklahoma State Saturday at the Brazos County Expo Complex.
The Aggies (3-0) were victorious in three of four disciplines, running their home win streak to 26 shows. Oklahoma State fell to 2-1 with the loss.
A&M took an early 4-3 lead on the day by claiming the overall win over fences. Lia Chafee matched a personal best with an 87-point ride, earning the junior her third career MVP honor and a five-point win over OSU's Allison Rose. The Aggies also got victories from senior Brooke Coleman and sophomores Kori Pickett and Emily Williams.
In its first home show of the year, the A&M horsemanship squad took four of seven possible points to extend the Aggie lead to 8-5. Senior Randi Standley had the high score in the discipline for the Aggies, earning a 74-70 win over Courtney Whitcare. Juniors Kelsey Adams and Bianca Lamb and sophomore Cassie Mantor also were victorious, while junior Amanda Brightwell posted a 73-all draw.
On the flat, junior Maggie Earle earned her second career MVP in the discipline after an 89-77 win over the Cowgirls' Alice White. Chafee and juniors Elizabeth Solch and Marisa Bernal were victorious as well.
A&M iced the overall team victory in reining, thanks to a 72.5-69.5 win by freshman Cheyenne Cracraft and a 71-70 victory by sophomore Becca Murray.
Texas A&M returns to action Friday at 11 a.m. when the Aggies host Auburn, also ranked No. 2 in the latest poll of the season. Admission is free.
