NO. 9 AGGIES DROP NARROW 11-9 MEET AT NO. 4 AUBURN
AUBURN, Ala.—Kaci Fisher and Marlena Parker won MOP honors in their respective disciplines, highlighting the No. 9 Texas A&M equestrian team's strong showing in a narrow 11-9 loss to fourth-ranked Auburn Friday evening at the Auburn University Horse Center.
Each of the four disciplines was decided by a 3-2 score, with the Aggies (2-3) taking the victory in reining.
With Auburn (2-1) clinging to a 10-9 team lead heading into the evening's final ride, the Tigers posted a four-point win to seal the overall team victory.
“It was another great effort by our girls,” head coach Tana McKay said. “The competition was tough, as we expected it to be, and it came down to the final ride. Our girls rode great.”
Hunter seat wins for A&M, which outscored Auburn in raw point total 753-741 on the day, came from Parker and Anna Rea on the flat and Parker and Hannah Williams over fences. Parker's 75-72 defeat of Peyton Smith over fences earned her MOP honors.
On the western side, the Aggies' reining squad used wins from Logan Pluhar, Ashley Dotson and Laura Sumrall to claim victory in the discipline. Pluhar added another team point in horsemanship, while Fisher's MOP award came after besting Danielle Long 73.5-72.5. Texas A&M posted higher raw-score totals than Auburn in both the western and hunter seat disciplines on the evening.
The Aggies open a three-meet homestand on Saturday, Nov. 22, hosting Georgia starting at 10 a.m. at the Hildebrand Equine Complex.
