Texas A&M Equestrian Set to Host South Carolina in Home Opener
Oct 28, 2015 | Equestrian
College Station, Texas—The No. 6 Texas A&M Equestrian team will host defending National Champion South Carolina at the Hildebrand Equine Center on Thursday, October 29th at 10 a.m.
The Aggies come off of a road trip to Fresno, California where they defeated a pair of top ten teams in No. 8 Fresno State and No. 9 New Mexico State.
Texas A&M defeated New Mexico State 14-1. A Texas A&M rider was crowned MVP in all four disciplines: junior Anna Rea (flat), junior Haley Webster (fences), junior Kaci Fisher (horsemanship) and senior Ashley Dotson (reining).
In their second meet of the weekend, the Aggies tied host Fresno State 9-9 but prevailed with a 1412.5-1383 tie-breaker. The hunter seat team fell by a score of 7-2, but the western squad put the Aggies back into contention with a 7-2 win themselves. Ashley Dotson earned her second reining MVP in as many meets while senior Hannah Williams received her first MVP of the year for her 75-point performance in equitation on the flat.
Texas A&M won all eight of its regular season meets at home during the 2014-2015 campaign. This included wins over eventual SEC champion Georgia and national champion South Carolina. The last time Texas A&M played South Carolina at home, the Aggies defeated the Gamecocks in the first round of the 2015 SEC Championship. The Aggies were 2-0 against the national champions last year.
