
Texas A&M Equestrian Narrowly Defeated by Georgia in Season Opener

Bishop, Georgia—The Texas A&M Equestrian team was edged 10-9 by the Georgia Bulldogs in the first meet of the season.
The Aggies took both events in the western arena for an aggregate western score of 6-3, but a 7-3 defeat in hunter seat sealed their fate against the defending SEC Champion.
In equitation on the flat seniors Hannah Williams and Audrey Gallagher scored the Aggies' two points in a 2-3 defeat. Although they lost the discipline, Audrey Gallagher was awarded MVP honors with an 83-79 victory in the final ride of the event.
The Aggies were defeated 4-1 in equitation over fences with sophomore Rachel Hake scoring the lone Aggie point in an 80-70 decision over Georgia's Liza Finsness. Senior Marlena Parker was the Aggies' highest scorer in the event with an 85 but was defeated by Georgia's Meg O'Mara who had the overall high score of 91.
Senior Logan Pluhar and juniors Rachel Lucht and Kaci Fisher each took a point for the Aggies in horsemanship. Pluhar was named the event's MVP after an overall high score 77-point performance. The Aggies took the event 3-2.
Texas A&M won reining by a score of 3-1 with seniors Ashley Dotson and Hannah Jechow and junior Sarah Kate Grider scoring the Aggies' three points. Logan Pluhar was narrowly defeated by the event's MVP, Georgia's Lauren Garmon, 73-74.
The Texas A&M Equestrian team will resume action next month when they travel to Fresno State to take on the Bulldogs on October 23. The Aggies' home opener is slated for October 29 when they will host defending National Champion South Carolina.
