Nov 10, 2016 | Equestrian
COLLEGE STATION – The No. 1 Texas A&M equestrian team closed out the fall slate with an 18-2 victory over Delaware State Thursday at the Hildebrand Equine Complex. The Aggies tie the school record for most points in a meet, most recently accomplished on Sept. 25, 2014 against UT Martin.
"I am really excited with the way we ended the semester," head coach Tana McKay said. "I am really happy with the way the girls rode. They cleaned up some things that they needed to from Saturday. I thought we made some great adjustments. It is always fun playing Delaware State, as they are great competitors. I am looking forward to getting a little bit of a break and hitting the ground running in the spring."
The Aggies (5-1, 2-1 SEC) jumped out to a 10-0 lead, sweeping both Equitation over Fences and Horsemanship.
In Fences, sophomore Rebekah Chenelle led off the event with an 84-76 victory over Rachel Dantley. Junior Kai DeVoglaer earned her second-consecutive MOP honor, defeating Emily Nelson, 86-67. Junior Rachael Hake followed with an 80-65 win against Alex Gill, before junior Alex Desiderio topped Molly Gara, 82-64. Senior Haley Webster closed the event with an 85, bettering Hayley Anderson's 83.
Junior Bailey Cook gave the Aggies a 6-0 lead with a 73.5-70 win against Blayne Bell in Horsemanship. Senior Kaci Fisher defeated Emily Fick, 73.5-64.5, to earn her third MOP of the season. Sophomore Sarah Orsak edged out Shelbe Jarrett, 69-68, and Rachel Lucht knocked off Abigail Buckwalter, 75-71.5. Junior Avery Ellis scored a season-high 77 to defeat Angelina Watts' 70.
Following intermission, the Aggies won Equitation on the Flat, 4-1. Desiderio defeated Molly Gara, 73-65, before senior Anna Rea took MOP honors with an 86-76 victory over Vanessa Rabito. Hake topped Sofia Zingale, 74-70, as junior Maddie Swem kept her unbeaten season alive with an 83-82 triumph over Hayley Anderson.
Sophomore Haley Franc notched her first career MOP, after defeating Cheyenne Adams, 71-69, in Reining. Junior Madison Bohman toppled Madison Sullivan, 69.5-66, before senior Jaci Marley defeated Monica Ellis, 70.5-66.5. Senior Sarah Kate Grider scored the final point with a 72-65.5 victory against Aubrey Braham.
The Aggies return to action Jan. 28 at New Mexico State in Las Cruces.
