Nov 04, 2016 | Equestrian
COLLEGE STATION – The No. 1 Texas A&M Equestrian team hosts No. 3 Georgia for its home opener, Saturday, at 10 a.m. CT at the Hildebrand Equine Complex.
"It is a very odd situation for us not having a home meet until November, but we are very excited to host Georgia," head coach Tana McKay said. "Our girls are excited to be at home on horses they know very well. We have an exciting presentation at the end of our meet for Quincy Cahill to recognize her accomplishments and it will be nice to have (Georgia head coach) Meghan (Boenig) here as well as we were her coaches. I feel like our team is ready. We are excited that our hard work is paying off and the NCEA selection committee is recognizing that."
The Aggies (3-1, 1-1 SEC) are coming off a 12-7 victory on October 22 at South Dakota State. The Maroon & White was led by sophomore Rebekah Chenelle and senior Sarah Kate Grider, who earned MOP honors in Equitation on the Flat and Reining, respectively.
Scheduled to compete in Horsemanship for the Aggies is sophomore Sarah Orsak, juniors Bailey Cook and Avery Ellis and seniors Kaci Fisher and Rachel Lucht.
Chenelle, along with with juniors Alex Desiderio, Kai DeVoglaer and Rachael Hake and senior Haley Webster will compete in Equitation over Fences.
In Equitation on the flat, Chenelle, Desiderio and Hake will be joined by seniors Anna Rea and Maddie Swem.
Grider, redshirt freshman Ashton Dunkel, sophomore Haley Franc and juniors Madison Bohman and Jaci Marley look to continue the Reining squad's undefeated season.
Following the completion of the meet, the Aggies will honor Quincy Cahill, who will be inducted into the Texas A&M Letterman's Association's Hall of Fame at the 39th annual Burgess Banquet on Nov. 18. Cahill was a two-time AQHA National Champion in reining in 2000 and 2002 and is the first Aggie equestrian rider to enter the Texas A&M Hall of Fame. She was a two-time AQHA National Champion in individual open horsemanship in 2001 and 2002, and was the high-point rider in the AQHA in 2000, 2001 and 2002.
