No. 3 Aggies set for SEC finale at Auburn
Mar 04, 2016 | Equestrian
COLLEGE STATION – The No. 3 Texas A&M equestrian team will be seeking a share of the SEC regular season title when they travel to play No. 1 Auburn at 1 p.m. CT Saturday at the Auburn University Horse Center.

The Aggies (9-2, 3-2 SEC) are riding a three-meet win streak and have outscored opponents away from home by a 66-33 margin this season. A win would bring the Aggies even with Auburn and Georgia at the top of the standings heading into the SEC Championships (March 25-26).

"We have had an excellent spring season and we look to continue that this weekend," head coach Tana McKay said. "It isn't easy winning on the road in the SEC, but our girls have worked hard in practice, so we are ready."

In their last outing, the Aggies met No. 5 Oklahoma State at Hildebrand Equine Complex where A&M issued the Cowgirls a 12-8 defeat, winning each of the four events. Sophomore Alex Desiderio and senior Logan Pluhar both earned their second consecutive MOP performance in Equitation on the Flat and Reining, respectively.

For the season, senior Ashley Dotson leads A&M with a 9-1-1 record in Reining with her only loss coming by a half point last weekend against Oklahoma State while junior Rachel Lucht and sophomore Avery Ellis share the Horsemanship lead tallying six wins. Senior Audrey Gallagher comes in riding a hot streak in Flat with five consecutive victories and in Equitation Over Fences, Desiderio leads the squad thanks to an 8-2 season mark.

The Tigers are currently (8-1 ,4-1 SEC) on the season with their only loss coming at the hands of the Aggies in College Station in November. With the match tied heading into the final event, A&M pulled out a victory with a 4-1 performance and setting the stage for this weekend's rematch in the SEC finale.
