No. 2 Texas A&M Set to Face No. 5 SMU
Feb 03, 2017 | Equestrian
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The No. 2 Texas A&M equestrian team hits the road to take on the fifth-ranked SMU Mustangs on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Dallas Equestrian Center.
"I think last weekend was a good reality check, and we have had a tough but productive week of practice," head coach Tana McKay said. "SMU has gotten better each and every year. They are in a new facility this season that we haven't seen before, so that is a challenge. The girls have been focused throughout practice in the short week, so I am excited to get there and compete."
The Aggies (5-2, 2-1 SEC) are looking to bounce back following a loss via the tiebreaker at then-No. 10 New Mexico State on Jan. 28. Junior Madison Bohman earned her team-high sixth win and third MOP in Reining with a 71-66.5 victory against NMSU.
Junior Avery Ellis tallied her first MOP of the season in Horsemanship with a 73.5-70.5 victory over Hallie Padilla. In Hunt Seat, sophomore Rebekah Chenelle topped Samantha Perlman, 82-78, in Equitation over Fences and earned her fifth win in Equitation on the Flat.
SMU finished the fall season with a 3-1 record, including a 9-8 upset victory over then-No. 3 TCU.
Saturday's contest will be the 12th meeting between the two squads with the Maroon and White holding a 7-4 advantage.
